Circular Saw Blades Sharpening Correcting Principles And Methods (3)
10. Correction of distorted fan shape.
The distortion extends to the center of the saw blade, forming a fan shape also known as the "large four fans". The key to correcting this defect is to correctly inspect and determine the extent of the defect boundary, including both the gap between them and the difference in tension within them. While inspecting, marks should be made with chalk. The parts with larger gaps should be struck towards the outer half of the radius (excluding soft taps), while the parts with smaller gaps should be struck towards the inner half of the radius (hard taps inside). Sometimes, a gentle tap near the flange is used to achieve a smooth saw surface before increasing the tension.
11. Correction of wave-shaped and concave-shaped distortion.
When the tension of the saw blade is uneven, the outer half of the saw blade radius is struck too heavily, resulting in a loose outer and tight inner state resembling a wave shape. During correction, hitting near the flange from both sides is necessary to ensure a satisfactory tension and a flat saw body.
12. Methods for flattening a warped saw blade.
Firstly, a straightedge is used to check the location of the warp on the saw body, and marks are made with chalk. Then, the hammer is used to strike the warped area while lightly tapping around the inner edge of the saw blade, which is commonly referred to as "warping and smashing". If the outer edge of the saw blade is loose, the flange should be struck to evenly create tension around the inner edge, and then the hammer should be used to uniformly release internal stress from the inner edge towards the outer edge, before proceeding with horizontal correction.
